When in Amsterdam....most films have Dutch subtitles. One of the good things about the Netherlands is that foreign films and programs are not dubbed in the local language.
If the movie is in English it will be in English with Dutch subtitles. However, if it is another language there are still Dutch subtitles.
This makes it difficult for those not fluent in Dutch to appreciate non-English films.
Katie Cook is the organizer of Ex-Pat Films. Living in Amsterdam Katie realized she missed watching foreign movies. A few times a month she organizers the screening of foreign movies with English subtitles.
Movies are selected by Katie, normally from prominent film festivals. Local regulars also have input in the selection but Katie admits that it is often what she would like to see.
The movies are screened from Fall to Spring. The Venue is at Lab 111 only 10 minutes walk from Leidseplein in Oud West (Old West). Films start at 8:45pm but be sure to get their early.
Local Tip
Lab 111 has a restaurant and a bar. Arrive early for some food or a drink before the movie.
Their program of dates and movies to be screened can be found on their Facebook page.
When in Amsterdam...enjoy!
